Iran Syria Iraq Closed Airspace Over Israeli Strikes on Iranian Military Bases

West Asian Countries Closed Airspace: Israel fired missiles at military targets in several cities including Iran’s capital Tehran in the early hours of Saturday (26 October 2024). This attack was carried out in response to the air strikes carried out by Iran on October 1, 2024, when more than 200 rockets and ballistic missiles were fired on Israel. These attacks were carried out to avenge the assassination of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.

After the latest attack, Iran claimed that these strikes had caused “limited damage”, while Israel said that this had given it more freedom in the “open skies” over Iran. After these attacks, Iran, Syria and Iraq have completely closed the airspace.

Three countries closed airspace

According to Flightradar 24, no aircraft were seen flying over the three countries. However, Iran announced that it would resume flights after the attacks. Syria said that Israel carried out airstrikes in Damascus. It claims that these attacks were carried out from Golan Heights and Lebanon, due to which Syria had activated the air defense system. Syria is part of the Iran-led ‘Axis of Resistance’, a coalition of Shia militias and political groups active against Israel and the US.

Airspace closed for safety of civil flights

On the other hand, Iraq said that it has closed the airspace to ensure the safety of civil aviation. For security reasons, closing airspace after attacks is part of the general security procedure, to prevent infiltration of enemy aircraft and to make it easier to identify friendly aircraft.

Iran looking to counterattack

Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, citing sources, said, “There is no doubt that Israel will receive a reply for its every step.” At the same time, the Israeli army warned Iran that if it started new violence, it would have to “pay a heavy price”. On the other hand, America has confirmed that it had prior knowledge of this attack but no one of its people or property was involved in it.

White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett described Israel’s action as “self-defense” in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack. US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said, “We call on Iran to stop its attacks on Israel so that this conflict can end without further escalating violence.”
